Anybody put a spring in the mainsheet cleating mechanism?

I am not sure if I can describe it, but the block conglomeration where you cleat the sheet just seems to flop around. I think there is a replacement hardware I could buy, but I have also read somewhere (maybe here, but I couldn't find it) that you can put a spring on to stiffen the works.

Does any of that make sense?

Have any of you done this, and if so, can you tell me what size spring to get, and where?

Thanks,

Bruce

Sounds like you are describing a stand up spring. I found a bunch at my local West Marine in Brick, NJ. Do you have a photo?

I put standup springs on the two sheet blocks of my SunCat (with double-end sheet), a good move. I already had one on hand , and got the other to match at West. The best part was being able to say," I went to West Marine and got what I needed and walked out having spent $1.09". How often do you get to say that?!!

This is what I have.  Block goes on top of the stand up spring.  I can adjust the cam cleat post in all directions for best cleat and release. Works very well.

Thanks, Bob and Dan, and Brackish. Standup spring. So, I need two? Are there sizes? I have a WM gift card I got for some holiday recently.

No photo, Bob, haha, I was just housebound and thinking up stuff I needed. Maybe when the roads clear I'll mosey over and see what our local store has. If I can't do it from here, I'll take a picture at the boat and go to the WM down in New Bern.

Yee-hah, standup springs!
