I'd like to hear from the folks in and around the north Chesapeake Bay area as we are soon to be restationed at Edgewood Arsenal, part of Aberdeen Proving Ground up between the Bush River and Gunpowder River.  I've read about the restrictions for boating near the military installation, but have yet to figure out how that impacts me if I keep the boat in a marina within those waters.

My comments here have been more spotty than normal, and I certainly would have hoped to have my CP-16 in the waters down near Savannah, GA by this time of the year, but work and overhaul of the boat have restricted those endeavors.  I've posted a few pictures of the refurb as comments to others, but lately it's been a race against the clock as the orders to move came through and we're trying to get settled before the beginning of a new school year.

After getting the deck back on the boat, and re-installing all the hardware (bow pulpit gave me some trouble), I'm at the point of getting everything "shipping" ready.  I had to cut off the old coupler (1-7/8") to put a 2" on as U-Haul trucks are standardized on that size (pulling the boat behind a small box truck with associated packed goods).  I've repacked the bearings, checked the tires, bought a new spare, and have replaced my mast crutch assembly to be more secure for travel.  Initially I'll be pulling the boat up this weekend for storage at Edgewood, do some house hunting, then back to close out in Georgia.  Short sailing season as I won't make it back up there until October, but look forward to the options that I have in the Bay.

Not able to make the CBMSG as the timing is right about the time I will finalize closing out of the house down here; but maybe the next gathering will work out.

Justin,

I sailed that area for many years. The restrictions have minimal impact. I had only one encounter when sailing at the border of the firing range when a safety boat approached to recommend I sail a little farther out and away from that restricted area. Maybe the guy shooting the cannon that day wasn't such a good shot. If you are military then check with the base to see if they have a space for your boat:  http://www.apgmwr.com/pdf/recreation/odr/Marina_Facilities-Fees.pdf  Nice area to sail a 16, lots of overnight places to visit. There is even a restaurant in Havre De Grace with a pier to tie up to for lunch. Of course being a southern sailor you will not likely be out there in your boat in January, so be prepared to "winterize" each year. Hint: that day in December that warms up nicely and you go to the marina to get her ready for winter but can't resist having one last sail of the season, well that will be the last warm day for a few months.

Good luck with your move and enjoy the Chesapeake.
