This Labor Day weekend is the annual Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum charity auction:
http://cbmm.org/events/annual-festivals-and-special-events/charity-boat-auction/

It's in St. Michaels, MD.  I didn't see any Com-Pac boats scrolling through the 12 pages of listings.

Did yo see a Menger Cat 19?

I think I saw a cat boat in the list.  ... Along with other trailer sailers, kayaks, & dinghies.  Hard to go through the list on the iphone...
Bob
"Cay Cat"     (say "keycat")

Has anyone ever been to one of these?  Do the boat sell at a bargain price or are they bid up to about average fair market value?

Anyone have any experience?

frank

With any auction...it depends

If someone there really wants the same thing.....the price goes up

At times there is little or no interest in what you want.....huge bargain

Ya just never know. Depends on the crowd.

Your milage will vary :-)

Exactly what Frank said.  I went last year, and there were many bargains but Also several closer to market price, caveat I'm no boat price estimator. The other thing is with hundreds of boats, it's a pretty long time investment to wait through the ones you don't care about.

I agree with TMW, I was there this weekend and just have to add that the tag sale that precedes the auction is where the best bargains are I walked away with a lot of good stuff at pennies on the dollar. As for dinghys they go for market value the larger boats are deals and worth a look and yes it can be an all day affair but lots of interesting stuff to look at and a very nice setting and let me not forget they do sell bidding lubricant on site .For me it will be an annual do over .
