I just sold my Trinka so I am now ready to move into a CP16 II, III, a Legacy or a Picnic Cat.  I've been looking at boats in anticipation of a quick sale on my Trinka, and sadly I must say that what I have seen is pretty weathered and in need of a redo.  I'm just not interested in a project, just want to go sailing......in a well maintained, nice looking boat, with a road ready trailer.  Engine is not important, I have that covered.

I'm located in Stuart, FL, and I am able to make a decision and pay cash right now.

Any leads or sellers with boats and trailers in great condition, even if not a Compac, please contact me.  Willing to travel a few hours for the right boat.

Thanks kindly

Hello Jim,  I know you said you were only interested in a CP16 MKII, but I thought I'd mention I have an 83' CP16 MKI I may be selling soon.  I purchased this boat through the Sailboat Company in Richlands NC.  We're in the process of moving from northeastern AL to Shalimar FL, arriving 15 April.  The reason I purchased this boat from Keith is based on all the new items(running rigging, interior, sails)in addition to having never had bottom paint, a teak/stainless supports boom gallows(the upper 1/3 can be removed for storing the boat in a garage), motor mount, new teak companionway door and stern boarding ladder.  There are very minor stress cracks, otherwise she is in excellent condition with no damage anywhere.  The trailer has new tires, wheel bearings, buddy bearings, LED submersible lights and non-marking bow stop. I had a tongue extension installed recently which provides almost 5' extension.  I have compounded, waxed and buffed the hull with very good results.  I am intending to install a bimini top and replace the rub rail(it's undamaged, but due to 32 years old, it could stand replacing before too long).  I have not sailed this boat yet, but have owned several sailboats over the years; the closest in comparison would be a Montgomery 15.  I like the open cabin layout better than the M15, the large cockpit and one inch cockpit drains.  I just replaced the original scupper flappers and rings.  The rudder gudgeon bearings have also been replaced.  All the wood is in very good condition and recently varnished with cetol.  I have installed a jib downhaul and repainted the interior with semi-gloss exterior grade paint; really brightened her up inside.  Quarter berth covers are original and in excellent condition(no stains or tears)and the foam has been replaced. I have a whisker pole, two anchors with 50' of line and 2'/3' chain(small bruce and larger danforth style anchors with new line, shackles and chain).  I also installed portable LED navigational lights with stainless brackets on the bow pulpit and stern boarding ladder(the lights can be removed easily until needed).  I have a LED 360 white light on a 24" pole which can be hoisted up the mast and used as an anchor and/or steaming light.  I also installed a fire extinguisher on the compression post.  I've always admired the salty design of these little boats, and from what I've read on this site, they sail quite well considering their limitations.  I was going to list this boat for $5500, which would include a Honda 2hp short shaft motor.  Boat/trailer without the motor I'd sell for $5000.  If you want photos I can email them to you(contact me via my email address  mayrel@centurylink.net).  The reason we're considering selling so soon is based on moving to FL we can get a larger boat and keep in a slip and not have to trailer anymore; we're retired.  I do hope to sail this boat within the next three weeks to see how she handles.  Good luck with your search.  John

John, congratulations on your upcoming move to Shalimar.  Having a boat slip available opens up a whole new world of sailing possibilities.  I purchased a new CP16 in 1981 and although it was a great boat, I've decided that I'd like to give a newer version a try.  I'm still on the search for one, but not a lot of boats for sale it seems.  Thanks again, and if you're new to retirement, as well as new to Florida, I think you are going to be in for some good times.

I just joined the association and saw your post dated from a year ago. Did you find what you were looking for? I just placed my Picnic Cat on the market.
