I shouldn't complain...only wood on my HDC is the bow sprit and the tiller.  The tiller is easy since I can bring it home.  Just went down to the boat to do the bow sprit.  Not too bad with Sikkens...acetone, sand, apply (after taping).  But it's still a pain!!

Very nice, Rob. And I love the Samson post. I love the wood on my 23  but it does become a chore sometimes. And it has to look perfect to look....perfect!

That does look great.  I have to do my 23's wood this year.  I have a love/hate relationship with wood and, if I had my say, I would do all starboard and stainless steel.  It sucks when you have to go to bare wood and build up the coats of cetol and cetol clear to get it to look nice. 

That being said, when your wood looks good, it really looks good.  There is nothing like a boat with spotless bright work.  It adds a real aspect of beauty to it.

i bought some sunbrella fabric, and am going to sew a cover for the bowsprit.

I did all, and I mean all the wood on my 16/3 this winter because it was in  bad shape.  It was way easier than I thought it would be.  I took every bit of it off the boat which took about an hour total and sanded it down with nothing but 60 grit before slathering on three coats of spar varnish, then two coats of spray spar varnish to finish it.  In the cabin I brushed on one good coat of semi gloss spar varnish, and now it looks like furniture.  That teak sure looks good when varnished.  If it is this easy to touch it up, I'm not worried about it even if I have to do it every year, which having used spar varnish for almost 40 years on other outdoor uses, I am sure won't happen.  

The really tough job was polishing the gelcoat.  I hope I never have to do that again.
