Wondering about using my GPS while singlehand tiller sailing

The camera is a Garmin Virb. I attached it to the pushpit rail with the Garmin Large Handlebar Mount sold for the Virb & Virb Elite.

Bruce, Buy yourself a selfie stick, mount your GPS on it and Velcro strap the stick lengthwise on the tiller.  You can angle it any way you want if you make it tight enough (maybe a clamp will be necessary) to keep it from rotating.

Such a modern suggestion, Tim! I can see about something like that. I have a pvc monopod with the fitting for my camera and if that fit the GPS, I could use it as well. Naturally as I think of this, the GPS is one place, and the monopod is another, but if I get to the boat this weekend, I can give that a try also.

chevrolet dealers at least around here have sent off a scratch and win circular. one of the prizes is a suction-cup cell phone holder for a car. your chances of winning are 14,997out of 15,000. maybe they have the same thing going on near you. im going uptown tomorrow and get mine.

Ah, finally saw the camera info; very cool.

I did find a very expensive selfie stick ($4.something) and it might work. The thing is, it has one of those screws to connect with. The GPS doesn't have that. I'll have to figure out a sort of cup to screw onto the stick, and put the GPS in when I want it there. Work in progress, maybe.

It's kind of like a google glass setup with navigation maps app would be pretty cool idea.  Having the overlay of current GPS provided location on a chart beamed onto my eyeglasses would be pretty cool, although I doubt there is a huge market for the app, and the google glass idea seems to have died off for consumers.

I guess it would be some kind of enhanced reality type of thing.

Really, just a mount that extended this GPS out like when you are reading a book would be great.

Possibly I will just put one of those plastic holders on each side of the cockpit, and have this one handy to move along with me when I change sides.

However, I like this selfie stick for a couple uses anyway, and if I can figure out an attachment for it that will hold the GPS, I will try it.

If I had an extra arm with a hand to hold it while I'm otherwise holding the tiller and or the jib-sheet, that would be cool too.
