RC Sailboat plans/builds

Hey everyone,

I have been toying with a idea lately to possibly build a RC sailboat over the winter and have been looking at some different kits along with plans.
I was wondering if anyone has made one themselves or runs RC sailboats that might be familiar with how they work and also parts, etc.
I am also looking for a good set of plans to maybe build one for myself.

I've done Google searches several times and have found some good links but nothing as far as plans to print and build, etc. I am a bigtime RC guy having dealt and owning 1/4 scale cars to 1/18 scale. My favorite is obviously the 1/4 scale...... lol.....so I am thinking a 4 foot long hull down to 2 foot maybe? I want it to handle well, and it seems below 2 feet is a rough boat.

Mac, I built a Tippecanoe T37 last winter.  It's a wood kit with all needed items. Of course I modified the rigging with a moveable mast and rigging as well as a stronger keel. I can't leave anything stock it seems! 

I'm actually still building it. Just need to paint and attach the standing and running rigging. They are very high quality kits. Between work and family, I've been severely sidetracked on it. I'm planning on painting it this fall then take care of the rigging over winter so it will be ready to go come spring.

There are several kits out there, I chose this due to excellent review, factory support, strong design and good looks.

Somewhere way back in my posts are three views of a CP-19 to scale.

I took these to a good [no distorting] copy machine for draftsmen and blew up the drawing to a 20 length on the plans.

So make cardboard cut-outs and cut and sand glued together Styrofoam boards to shape of the hull.

Calculate the 25 foot from the waterline to top-O-mast.

That would make a nice model for the mantel. Or fiberglass the outside of the model and then dissolve the foam away with acetone.

Laughing Whale makes some nice sailboat kits.

I will look into these options and see. Carl, I had been on that site, but I think I overwhelmed myself with what I saw because the layout was a little beyond my comprehension......

Salty, does this mean maybe a CLR race in 2015 if we get participants? LOL

It's model building winter time. The CP-16 foto is for the Com Pac circle design art work.
Remember twenty five foot from waterline to top of mast.
You'll have to sand smooth the 'fair' line. You'll know it when you see it. Use a long batten stem to stern to gauge this line.

I's Luv's to build models. I really really like Jason's model, good job !
Dad had a star Boat, and I built a Lighting model ... the sister to Charlie's pond yacht.

The paint on the Revelle Harbor Tug and Fire boat [ you saw this boat in action when Cap't. Sulley's aeroplane crash landed in the Hudson River ] are water base coatings for green ceramic and detailed with a Pentel permanent ink marker [ I like the inked panteena gloss ] and the live steam launch is red Rustoleum gloss killed [dulled] with tooth paste. The hull chins are bamboo shickabob sick's covered with fiberglass cloth and resign.

The whale chase boat is scratch built from left over bass wood.  

Cub Scouts learned to carve making their Pinewood Derby entry's. I dig that crazy fin. Stability at speed. Can't bring your pocket knife to grade school anymore. How P.C. Stupid can adults be? I was never without my pocket knife all through school.

The Ford Model 'A'  is die cast.

And the Wedgy is scratch built from fotos of the original rubber band powered under camber, poly dihedral wing with a lifting horizontal stab for a tail. R/C 3 channel and a Enya 0.09 with prop on backwards to produce less 'pull'. Covered with a modern iron on heat shrink covering. The stick 'em for the covering is the coloring, so a little solvent will remove the color to make windows if the aeroplane has a cabin.

The deep keel tub on the polished coconut depicts a vessel that some French mariner soloed around the world. Forget his name.

Hey Mac:
I built the Star a couple of years back from a kit, just like the one in the url that Crazy posted.  It was an enjoyable build.  I only tried to sail it one time in a stock tank.  The algae made sailing impossible.  Have not got around to trying it again, feel bad about not using the RC stuff.

My brother has a laser cutter and he sucked the plans into his software and sent me the forms. I am currently planking the boat.
