I am a new 23 owner.  I am starting to rebuild the companionway steps.  I will be building a battery case also.  If anyone has any good ideas or pictures I would love to see them.

Thanks

Let me guess: You're from Illinois!
Welcome to the site. What year Compac 23 you have? That would be helpful in anyone reading this who wants to help.
Bob23 and "Koinonia" a 1985 23/2 from NJ.

Well, I wouldn't tear out my perfectly good companionway steps to do this but since you are starting over so to speak.........

My boat has the table/sink as the top step and the entire assembly is not in the best shape.  The power panel is also on the side and I want to move it to the front.

Well this is how the 23IV's are currently coming from the factory.  The panel is inset between the top step and the second step.  Battery box is in the starboard side cockpit locker so the wire run is not that long.

If you do something like that I would suggest you consider doing this also.  The area under the lowest companionway step is kinda low (however, building from scratch you can make it what you want) and there was a drop board lip on the deck that made it difficult to put things in and out of the area, so I made a drawer and got rid of the lip.
