Some of you might remember that I indicated a few months ago I was considering a new Com-Pac 23.   I had some questions for you all.  Well, I bought one!  It's my dream boat.  Attached are some photos.  The boat has an inboard Yanmar diesel engine (2YM15)  (that was one of my questions for you all) with optional exhaust blower to minimize accumulation of fumes in the cabin as well as  lightning grounding through the propeller shaft.  She also has a marine toilet.   Of particular note are the custom portlights and a custom work station.

Portlights:  I had wanted to replicate the round portlights on the CP23s from the early 1980s.  Rich and Gerry of Com-Pac Yachts came up with an option that gave me the same 5-inch diameter glass but with a somewhat bolder look from the outside.  I went with the stainless steel option instead of bronze because of maintenance issues (but bronze is also available).

As for the work station:  I need to work at least ten more years before retirement (and I might need to keep working part-time after retirement!), so I asked for some kind of work station that would allow me to use my laptop (I teach entirely online) with a posture that came close to working at a desk.  All I asked for was an enhanced seating arrangement that could be added on (when needed) to the step that leads out of the cabin so that I could sit higher than is possible when sitting on a main cabin berth.  I was going to then use a board placed across the cabin space from one side to the other resting on the two shelves/ledges.  Well, the Com-Pac team ran with the basic idea and came up with something that was far better than what I was thinking of!   See the photos.  All the components are removable/retractable.

Folks, "We Can Do That!" is not an empty slogan for Com-Pac Yachts!   Tell them what you want.  If they can't do it, they'll  say so;  if they can do it but don't think it's a good idea, they'll tell you that as well.

The boat  will be at Inland Sailing Center in Garland, Texas through Sept. 29th.  Anyone considering a new CP23 is welcome to drop by and check her out.

The Hutchins bros. as well as Todd Hartman of Inland Sailing Center have been great to work with.  They have truly exceeded my expectations.  I can't praise them enough.

Now that is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing and good luck with the new 23! I love the look of the round (my 1985 has the bronze round Perko lights). Please continue to post here- it's what makes this place unique!!

Nice looking boat.

I like my oval port lights but I rarely open them.  I don't see them actually helping much with ventilation as, when I am at anchor, I have the front hatch open and it funnels most of the wind into the boat and back out the Companionway.

It is nice to see that they do nice custom work.

Overall I have been impressed with the craftsmanship of the Compac.  It is a tough little boat.

Congratulations and, like Bob23 said, keep posting on here!
