Width of cockpit floor

I am away from my boat and I need to get a rough measurement of the width of the cockpit floor.

I am going to make an adjustable wooden rod to make a barrier in the back of my cockpit.  I usually carry a jerry jug in this area and I would like to use this to keep it in place instead of tying it down.

Thanks for anyone who can give me that measurement.

Hey HeaveToo:
Just happen to have a deck grating from our old 23 hanging on the wall as art.  It is 21 inches wide.

Thanks.

I am an idiot because I took my cockpit grate down to the boat last week after I finished it with cetol light and gloss.  Thank you for the measurement.

I made the adjustable rod today.  I didn't have my normal stuff at the house so I ended up not getting the drilled section perfectly straight.

I used a 1" oak dowel rod that was 36" long.  I cut it down to 20".  I then used a stainless steel 1/4" threaded rod that was 6" long.  I then attempted (key word is attempted) to drill the center of the dowel rod (which I also cut at 16") on each side about 3" deep.  I didn't get it directly in the center.  I then made a notch big enough to put a nut on each side of the dowel rod piece to keep the threaded rod from slipping all the way into the dowel rod.  I may eventually glue the nuts in place.  I put rubber chair caps on each end of the dowel rod that will come into contact with the sides of the cockpit.

Hopefully this will hold my Jerry Jug in place.  I may keep my propane canisters in this area too.

This was a $12 project!  I wish that they all were this cheap!
