Hello,

Does anyone use a boom tent for a CP19?  I'm planning a trip to the North Channel next summer and thought that a boom tent would be nice if I was caught in a few days of rainy weather.  If anyone has purchased or made a boom tent any information would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Hi J, I used a small plastic tarp with tarp grippers to keep the sun and rain off myself many times. I bought a couple of bike flags to use the fiberglass poles on each end. Works pretty well and very cheap. You might try it in your driveway and see how it fits your style.
Another thing I've seen done is to make one of Sunbrella to suit your color scheme but it's going to cost more. Personally I like the cheap tarp idea. The tarp keepers, grabbers, whatever you call them allow you to grip with a tie rope anywhere you need to. Let us all know how this comes out.

Steve,
I use a Sumbrella tent both for when I camp and when my boat is in the slip.
I made my own and V shaped the forward to protect the teak trim. I use it as a tent cover over the cockpit to keep the dew and rain out.
Try a plywood hinged cockpit filler for a queensize birth..double air matress works great fo to..OH and how one sleeps and not a ripple of a wake can be heard.

For a boom tent I just pull a plastic tarp with 'eyes' over the boom and bungee cord the thing to the life lines. Plus I tie the fwd. center eye of the tent to the mast and transom end to the stern pulpit. Snug as a bug in the rug. But noisy in the pouring rain. Skip.
