8ft Sinbad Dingy

Has anyone owned or played on a 8ft Sinbad sailing dingy?

I know a guy with one for sale and before he advertises to sell it he offered it to me.
It is supposedly in good shape, and has everything with it. I know the guy really well, so I am considering it but he hasn't used it in a really long time so couldn't really remember how well it sailed or its weight handling.....

Anyone have any ideas or experiences good or bad before I maybe buy it?

I have a Sinbad dingy. It is a nice rowing dingy but does not sail well. The seating is wrong for sailing and the boom is to low. It does not go to weather at all and the centerboard does not stay down when you need it. It is a nice rower, as I said.

Any idea on if it would handle about 450 pounds? I wouldnt mind rowing my wife around, and primarily would probably row anyway to be honest.
But weight carry factor is a issue for me overall.

Sorry I didn't see your weight question until now. I think 450 lbs would be an issue. I remember rowing the sinbad with my wife seated forward. Whenever we hit a wave with her in this position we caught water over the bow giving my wife a wet posterior. she was not happy about that. The reason she was forward was so that the boom could swing on the boat when the sail was rigged as it was that day. My wife weighs about 100 lbs and I tip the scales at 220 so we had 320 lbs in the sinbad that day.

It is hard to find a good sized rowing dingy with a good weight capacity.  The Walker Bay 8 that you can buy at West Marine is very low, if I recall.

I have a Sumner Hard Dingy that is 8 feet and it can carry 500 pounds (people, motor, and weight total).  I have had my wife (150), myself (230), and two Dahon Folding bikes in it with the 2.5hp outboard and been okay.

I haven't been carrying the outboard with the Compac 23 because I need to find room to put it on the rail, eventually.  Honestly, I am not sure if I will carry the outboard at all.

Either way, when rowing I put my wife in the back, I am in the middle, bikes are in the front.

I have a Walker Bay 8 that I've had 3 grown, if not silly at the time, men in it and plenty of freeboard left. There's a photo lurking around here somewhere. It actually rowed better with 3 than 2- better balanced. I'd put in forward sockets if I rowed with just 2 but most of the time, it's only me and I've been able to average a bit better than 2 knots. Ok for a tub of a boat.

I don't know who those 3 convicts are, but they ain't us. This was some of the most fun 3 grown men could legally have in a salvaged 8' dingy!
After the capsize, the three of us roared with laughter until our sides hurt!

The real questions is that we are all noticing that you guys are rowing TOWARDS the powerboats and there are no sailboats in sight......wouldn't that be called defecting?

Next thing you know they will be riding around in one of the MacGreggor powerboat/sailboat things.  Ugh!  There goes the neighborhood!  ;-)

If you ever see me in one those MacGreggor things, you'll know I've lost what few marbles I had left. Ugh is too mild...don't get me started.
In any event, you can see that the WB8 is a fine dink. Named "Little Fellow", she makes a great little tender for all the exotic ports that I dream about visiting.

Hrm.....So powerboaters usually act different than sailors.  How does a person in that Mac act?  I think that Hunter also produced a bastardized version of this for a few years too.

I just looked up the Specs on you Walker Bay.  It has a weight of up to 450.  That isn't too bad.


I wonder how bad the additional floats would drag when towing the dink.
