Hello Fellow CP 27 owners,

I am in need of your help once again. The UV protection's stitching has come loose on the jib that I am pretty sure is connected to the original roller furler system.

Couple questions:

I tried removing it this weekend. There isn't a halyard and well I am darn confused. Have any of you run into this problem?
What is the make of the roller furler?
Am I going up the mast...?

Thanks guys,

There should be a small line or cable you can pull located in the bottom 3-4 ft of the luff of your jib.  This pulls on a small latch that holds the top of your sail to the top of the furler. You can release some of the strain on this by disconnecting the bottom of your jib before pulling on the release.

Thank you Bob,

When fiddling with it this past weekend I was wondering about that small line at the luff of the jib. I'll get back to you hopefully with a shower full of 'Thank You's"

How much tension does it require? I cannot muscle it off. Theoretically once the latch is undone at the top of the furler, how then does it come down and go back up?

BobK

In order to pull the sail down you need to release the tension on the sail by disconnecting the bottom of the sail from the furling mechanism.  When that is done pull the release and keep some tension on it at the same time you are pulling a handful of sail towards the deck.  The release mechanism is nothing more than a lever with a small spring to hold a 1/4 inch latch over the top of the upper furling rotating device.

I found in my boat hook with a loop at the top to attach the jib halyard to.  Put the hook through the eye of the rotating unit that is attached to the top  of the sail and haul it up until the latching device attaches to the rotating unit.  At that time when you release tension on the halyard  (I tie a small piece of cord to the hook) pull the cord to pull the hook and halyard to the deck.  The latch will hold the sail in place.

I will try to take some pictures or find the instructions on the boat this weekend.

I have read and re read your instructions and cannot get the thing down... Could that lever at the top of the furler be rusted shut? Would you recommend going up in the chair and lifting the latch myself as someone else pulls the sail down?

Thanks Bobk,
