Hi, I am new to sailing and just bought a com-pac 23, HIN ABV00074M80G. Like I said I am new to sailing and will have a lot of stupid questions. In the past I have always had power boats and in fact I have never even been on a sailboat before and just got the bug and decided it was something that i wanted to learn how to do. I will post pictures of the boat as I get to them this weekend. Thanks for any help in advance.
Thanks,
Ed C.

well, that was a leap of faith!   But it is likely that all will go well, and you will enjoy your time on the water..  be patient.. there is a lot more to sailing than  turning the key and pushing the throttle forward!   in fact, I am convinced that sailing is a never ending learning process which just gets more enjoyable as you spend more time on the boat..  looking forward to hearing about your adventures..  be safe and have fun!  jt       btw.. where will you be sailing?

Welcome. I woundn't worry about all the stupid questions you may have. I'm sure with all the wealth of knowledge and experience here, we'll have at least one stupid answer for each of your questions!
Looking forward to hearing about and seeing photos of your boat. Er, yacht. As JT and I already know, the 23's are wonderful boats, not as slow as some may think and plenty of room down below. Plus, in my possibly biased opinion, one of the prettiest boats out there.
   Again, welcome!

Hi, I haven't really decided where I am going to sail but  people have suggested Cowan lake, Acton lake and Rocky  Fork lake ( all in southern Ohio ) but haven't made a decision. As far as the  boat I looked at several different brands and when I saw the com-pac 23 I knew it was what I was looking for.

Cowan is pretty shallow when it's full...I imagine it's too shallow during dry spells...like right now.

I've never sailed on the other lakes, so can't comment there.

Are you planning to trailer it around with you each time you want to sail?

A couple of people have told me that Cowan and Acton lakes were shallow and might give me problems. The guy at Strckly Sail recommended Rocky Fork, it is a little longer of a drive to get there but might be my best option. I chose the com-pac 23 because I can trailer it but my plan is to rent a slip this year and next and concentrate on learning to sail. I retire in a couple of years and hope to be able to travel and visit other lakes and make it to some of the com-pac events.
