Bateau FS14 - most recent progress

 Need to organize my many photos of this build and put a link to it rather than put a bunch of pics here, but got the first prime done last week.  I'm going to guide coat tomorrow and put the outside portion of the rubrail on if weather and time permit.  This is the planing skiff that will get my 9.9 Suzuki (rejetted as a 15) that came off my 23 when the Sailpro went on.  This is my first stitch and glue epoxy composite and I've learned a ton.

The boat looks great!  This is kind of a coincidence.  I also own a Com-Pac 23 and am building an FS14.  I've completed the outside of the boat and am now working on taping the frames and installing seats.  I will probably finish it up this winter.  I'm busy with another project now in that I am buying a Com-Pac 27 this weekend.

That is a coincidence.  Did you do an epoxy graphite bottom?  I'm close to that stage now, however with regard to fairing I can't seem to figure when it is good enough to move on.  First sanding after guide coat indicates I have a way to go but it has been too hot to work epoxy.  Next week looks better.

Coincidentally, (again?)  I have been thinking about a 27.

You reach a point in a step of boat building when you say to yourself, that's enough, and proceed on with the next step in the process.

My neighbor, after hearing my complaints, often reminds me that "it's homemade, and not expected to be perfect".

Nevertheless, I can still point out the various flaws (shudder) in the few boats I've made.

I did use graphite epoxy for the bottom.  I built a 15 foot sailboat (Michalak Philsboat) maybe 7 years ago and I used epoxy graphite on that.  It really worked out well.  I have not had to do anything with the bottom since.  I did complete the purchase of the CP27.  So far i've slept on the boat a couple of times.  A lot more room than the 23.  At the end of this week I will be motoring it 16 miles to where I will be getting it pulled out for repairs and winterization.  I'm really looking forward to being on the water with it.

I figure once I have my boats put away I'll get back to the FS14.  Should be really fun this spring.
