Hey Folks, I'm looking for pics of any mast step repairs you have done. I have a 1982 CP23 that is going to go under the knife at seasons end and I want to see what's in there before I start cutting.  Thanks, Ken

I'm mid way through.  Planned on building a stainless steel tabernacle but I was told defender has em cheaper than I can build one?  Here is a link to my photobucket site.  http://s826.photobucket.com/home/mss-cp23  Another great feature of the Com-Pac 23 is that there is no balsa wood.

I'll be back on line next Tuesday.

Just what I was looking for. What did you fill the void with? I read somewhere to fill the whole thing with fiberglass.  Thanks for the pics...

Cut? Cut what? Just fill the pulled out screw holes with epoxy like Marie-Tex and replace with I think #10-32 screws, finishing washers, flat washers, and acorn nuts after grinding the 10-32's to length then backing off the temporary nuts, [ this cleans the screws and re~taps the threads after grinding with your Dremel tool for the decorative acorn nuts ]  before the epoxy cures around the 10-32's from the inside of the cabin. Takes about 1-1/2 hours and you'll be stepping the mast.

You'll find a layer of 2-1/2 oz WOVEN glass cloth impregnated with epoxy resign, a plywood hard point, covered with more class cloth.

skip.

I just added a couple more photos to my photobucket page.  I used some extruded PVC scraps.  I'm also using this PVC to refurbish the interior.
Next step is to fabricate the mast step cover.

Pics coming soon ; I bought the epoxied wood "backing plate" the replaces the factory one and added 4-6 layers of fiberglass bi-axial cloth to the sides
of the mast deck "box" and 6 layers of regular glass cloth in between the epoxied wood and the cabin top ; soaked  in west 650 g-flex epoxy and 404 adheasive filler.
then drilled holes from the top of dec]k box after gluing down to cabin top ; 8 large holes which had to be filled with epoxy . Long hours filling those holes with epoxy.

Keep them coming folks. After this season is over I will get mine started and will post here as well. This will be a valuable link to those who want to go this route.

Hi Folks, My boat sank in hurricane Irene and was destroyed. So I never got to fix that mast step. :(
