A little modification

with the florida get together approaching fast, i'm spending every minute working inside the boat. (ok, not EVERY minute, i'm on here)

i carved out some of the foam from under the cockpit and installed a 10 gallon water tank.  the tank is roto-molded and the walls are approximately 3/16" thick.

the tank was slipped in and then expandable foam was injected from the center out.  there isn't any give on the cockpit sole.

next i ran a tube to the sink using an old shroud i use to "fish" wire through the mast.

i'll use pvc for now and run it to the cockpit locker for the fill pipe.

the thru-hull is 2" above the water line so i needed to build a riser for the sink to drain properly.
note the access hole for the ball valve.  this will have a teak door added.

the sides are teak veneer with common counter top formica.

the top trim was installed using brads and a bead of life caulk to prevent spills from leaching into the plywood substructure.

Wonderful! I've been thinking about the exact same modification to a 16, neat to see it actually implemented. That area under the cockpit sole is just wasted, I've been thinking about a water tank like you, or some storage area to hold gallon jugs (with supports going up to support the sole).

you did a nice job buddy, is a shower next on the list?

Nice workmanship.

You'll need to monitor that clear tube for algae growth, although you'll probably taste it before you see it (unless the plasticizers leaching out overwhelme the taste).

that is the reason i chose a clear tube instead of something heavier.  it lets me keep an eye on it.

every so often, i'll run a bleach solution through the tank and hoses to keep them clean.
