Hello to All,

I am located in Iowa. Fell in love with Com Pac boats when we lived in west MI. Sold my 16-II five years ago and now have the itch to get sailing in a Com Pac again, possibly a 19 or 23. The search begins...

I look forward to getting to know many of you.

Welcome to the forum, Troy. 

19's are a bit hard to find but worth the search if they suite you.  23's are a bit easier to locate, but not all of them are in good shape, so be critical.

Obviously the 19's are easier to trailer and setup, and sail relatively flat due to the hull shape, but the cabin is quite a bit smaller than 23's, and with another foot of beam, the 23 feels quite a bit bigger in the cockpit too.

Our member Macgyver has his beautifully restored 19 for sale somewhat near you (southern IL).
It's more expensive than most, but if you look at it you'll see why (very professional job, many new parts, etc).

Troy:  How far are you from Madison, Wisc. ?  FYI  -- There are a couple CP's that sail on Lake Mendota.

V- I am about 400 miles from Madison. If I get to that area I will check out Lake Mendota.

Salty19- I saw "Together Time". Macgyver did a great job with the restoration. I love to do that sort of work also so I would love to find a fixer upper. Thanks for the direction to some other lists. I will take a look.

I would love to be able to spend some time sailing around the Apostle Islands at some point.

Thanks Bob, yes I was bitten long ago. I think one of the first trip reports on this site is from mgoller and my family's trip on Grand Traverse Bay. We sold our 16 after moving to IA (sailing our inland lakes was not the same as Lake MI). I miss the big water. I have been camp cruising in a Bufflehead sailing canoe I built a couple of winters ago.

Ahoy fellow Iowan,
  I live in Waterloo and have sailed a Suncat the last two years, before that I owned a CP27. Found trailer sailing works best for me because wife doesn't enjoy sailing as much as myself. Hoopers in Minnesota has a 19 for sale, you might want to take a look. If you see a dark blue hulled Suncat named Cherish, flag me down, always looking for more sailors here in Iowa.

Hi, Troy, I'm still new here myself; lots of good info around.

My first Com-pac was a 19, from about 1993-2000, when a mean old snowstorm that was supposed to be a "trace" came in at a heavy 24" and destroyed my pole barn and cracked the mast, drove the stanchions into the hull, and too much else to mention. I decided not to fix it, and got a Sun cat.

After a few wanderings to other sailboats, I am back now with a CP 23 that I just got to my slip in New Bern, NC.

Anyway, good luck finding the 19; I tried to find one, but had more luck with finding the 23 around here.

A friend of mine and I put sails on a couple of canoes. I used a leeboard with mine. Have since sold the canoe, and have the mast and sail left; too stubborn to get rid of it, I guess.

I'm sure your boat will find you, as someone said above.

Thanks to all for the welcome. No, The Bufflehead is not for sale i do not plan to give up sailing her. Yes, it is a Hugh Horton design. He was a great help during the build. Thanks also for the suggestions to locate a boat. I can't tell you how many times I have shown the CP 19 at Hooper's to my wife. She's not convinced yet.
