THIS POST REFERS TO OUR OLD FORUM SOFTWARE, WHICH IS NO LONGER IN USE.

Probably the first thing you should do is to read the phpBB FAQ linked up above. It will give you many details about how to use the Forum, as well as tips you can use to help enhance your experience here.

Some info about how I have this configured at the present time:

"Avatars" (small graphic pictures that accompany your posts, like my pirate) are enabled, and you can upload or link to them from within your Profile settings. They can be up to 130x130 pixels in screen size, with a file size up to 8k.

Also in your Profile settings, you can set a signature (or "sig") that will accompany your posts. My sig (see it below) is "My other car is a sailboat", for example. You can put a quote, links, or an email address into your sig - pretty much anything written in text. I would be wary of using an email address without also adding in something to deter "spam bots" (programs which search the internet for email addresses to add to spammers lists) from picking up the address. If your email is "joesixpack@aol.com", you could write it as "joesixpack" AT "aol" DOT "com", for instance. I try to never post my email address in plain, public view without altering it in some manner - I get enough spam as it is.

There is a "Rank" assigned to you automatically based on the number of posts you have made. You'll start out as a "Swabbie", and soon after you begin contributing your rank will begin to rise. Maybe some day you'll make Admiral, and we'll all have to salute you and your posting skills! Please don't try to trick or abuse the Rank system with bogus postings, or you will get the CPYOA version of keelhauling...

There are a number of other setting you can change within your Profile, most of them are pretty self-evident as to what they will do.

Let me know if I need to add other information to this post.

Thanks!

Kurt
