Bob, It was your story that appeared in Cruising world 1980, cruising in the Florida Keys- that got my interested in the C-16.
I went down to the factory in Clearwater and  picked up a new one in 1981 and equipped it for cruising. I even made the bimini top based on the article in the Handbook, that has served well for many years ( a clever design too). Now 32 years later I own another 1983 Cp-16.

Ah, Mike, I'm so glad to hear that. Writing is a lonely job. I often wonder if there is anyone out there who reads it and cares. People like you who give me feedback let me know that it wasn't all for nothing and that someone else was able to share in the same adventures of sailing that I love so much.

No problem Bob- glad to give you some feedback. I guess an author never knows how much their stories can influence readers.
I think that first story in CW "set the hook for me "on how to equip a mini-cruiser like the Cp-16, for comfort and sleeping aboard.
After I did some mods on my new '81 boat, I set out on a 5 day single handed cruise of Tampa Bay- it was great. So you never know.

So true, Mike.  Most readers are like me, if they like an idea they go with it without taking the time to tell the author. That's why I appreciate it so much when people make a special effort to let the author know that they appreciated his suggestion. It's the feedback and sharing of that special information as on this forum that we have always appreciated.

Glad the customizing for comfort info worked for you. It is always fun for me to find ways to solve a problem so that the enjoyment of the experience is better.

Like many others, I'm sure, I thoroughly enjoyed the original book. When I first stumbled on to "Handbook.." I had a Macgregor 26. After selling it, moved to WA state and bought the first Compac 16 I could find; your book provided the influence.

Now I have a 19 and a 23. See what you did?? <grin>

So, you have another "fanboy" - I'm buying it now!

Shawn, it's good to hear about your ComPacting adventures. I'm sure glad it's a good boat because if it happened to be one of those we all know that when it runs into a dock it falls apart, then everyone who got into the ComPac business from my Handbook would sure be after me....Talk about me being lucky!
