Well, L's & G's, Capt's & Admirals and other grog swilling Lubbers!

Take note: This weekend the 29 & 30th, the 24th annual Smith Mountain Lake Wine festival will be held.

http://www.facebook.com/events/337643066327851/

Y'all are invited to attend.  Your humble administrator is also the festival event chairman - loads of work.

Citroen/Dave: It's only 40 min from Lunchbag if you're in the area.

If you're close enough to attend, come on out!

Tim,
We had already considered the wine festival. Trying new wines is one of our favorite past times.  I saw the ads while browsing for information about SML.  The 12 hour drive made us reconsider and we would have to miss a weekend sail here in NY.

We are kind of looking around the country for a place to retire, east of the Mississippi, south of PA, lower taxes than NY...and must have some lakefront?  Do you know of any?  ;)

Allen,

You must visit SML then.  My home is on the water, with a large dock, is valued at 475,000 and I pay less than $1500 in property taxes. State income tax at 5.5%, state sales tax is 5%; and yesterday I paid $3.15/ gal for gas.

Beautiful Tim,
Wow...all that AND wine!  Our home is less than half of that and we pay more than double in property tax.  Gotta luv NY!    ::)

Suzie and I will consider a vacation there sometime.
Thanks,
Allen

Tim:
We're packing the car right now and headin' south. A house that's valued at $475k must be big enough to hold a few more crew. I'll work off the rent by waxing your boat! Suchadeal!

(ps: beautiful photos.)

Tim,
How is the water level at SML?
Did you get your boat floating again?

We suffer from low low levels because.  Period.

Yes this last weekend the admiral and I muscled and heaved the mighty S'Go from her temporary internment in her air lift slip.

WE said our hails and then halleulies when she floated free from her watery framed bindings.  We raised the asym and sailed lazily to the ESE.  Then we motored home to the raised glasses and hailings from the nearby wannabees.

here's a pic of the asym:

We have two rooms available .....

An Update - The 25th annual Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival is Sept 28 & 29 this year.  If you want to attend, and if you want to trailer your boat to SML, I can find dock space at the Virginia Inland Sailing Association (VISA) facility for you.  On Friday night, at VISA, there is a wine Festival kickoff party with wine, food and music for $20.00/person.  Room to sleep on your boat in or out of the water.

Info on the wine festival is here: http://smlwinefestival.com/

Well shoot, I was a month early. :'(  Passed within striking distance last week a couple of times.  On a trip to Philly did the Blue Ridge Parkway Southern terminus to the end on the way up then stayed in the Shenandoah Valley on the way home.  For a wine festival I would take a side trip and do an overnight in the area.
