My first attempt at double braid eye splicing

My mainsheet was the wrong size diameter and in pretty bad shape.  I figured that since I will need to replace my halyards soon I might as well teach myself how to do an eye splice instead of paying $15 each time I need one.

I ordered some Samson LST 5/16 and a fid kit from defender and went to work. I had a few extra feet added to the order to practice and after the second time I think I got the hang of it.

My eye splice might be a little bit bigger then I wanted but it will work regardless . I also had some Speedy Stitcher waxed thread laying around and I figured I would use that to whip the other end

Nice job.  Ironically I haven't done one in about two years and I did one this morning to make a replacement halyard for my spinnaker.  It has a captured shackle.  Only took about a half hour including whipping the bitter end and the eyesplice throat.  Did it on NE Sta Set.

I was going to replace with Sta Set X but tried to splice it (different procedure) and after two attempts I gave up.
