Will a 5hp Honda work ok on my recently purchased 16

capt_nemo

Absolutely!

I move my Sun Cat at hull speed at half throttle with a Yamaha 4 HP 4 stroke.

Enjoy!

Welcome aboard!

As capt_nemo said, 4hp is plenty of power for a boat that size. The 16 tends to "squat" a little with a lot of weight in the cockpit/transom, so ideally I think a 2-4hp motor is probably best, but 5hp will definitely be enough power, no concern there.

Unless you got a good deal on the Honda, I would say it is too big. I had a 2.5 hp on my 19 and that was enough.

Thanks a lot for the info. I can get a great deal on a five so I will give her a try.
