Ufff!

I know these boats since more than 12 years, i planned to buy one since then, i searched more intensively since one year - now I just signed the contract to buy a 96` 16 CB here in Germany. The owner - a very nice guy as all CP owners seem to be - said it could be the only one with centerboard in Germany or even Europe.

Funny that it is named Com-pac 17 here. The importing company (Prinz Import in Cologne with a subsidiary in Florida) renamed the boats, maybe to create the impression of a bigger boat. I also saw a 19 which was named Com-pac 20.

So now i wait to go and get her from where she is standing (in a barn in southern germany) and then cannot await the first sailing in next spring!

I am sure i´ll be back soon with tons of questions!

And if you tell me how to do it i can post a pic of my new baby.

Congratulations on your new little yacht, Ludwig. You are very persistant in searching for 1 year.
I have just purchased a 1996 16CB from a dealer in North Carolina after searching for 5 months for the right boat.
I will be travelling from Canada early next year to pick her up and hopefully do some sailing in the warmer US States.
Our boats are twins!
Is the weather in Germany still warm enough for sailing, or will you have to wait until next Spring?
It's all very exciting.

Hello,

season is over here, to cold for sailing, except you are a fanatic sailor.

Interesting that you bought a 16 CB, too! The building nr of the boat is ABV 002869A696, can anyone interprete it?

Here is a pic, it is from the previous owner:

I am curious to experience the sailing abilities, especially against the wind, with the board down. The boat also has the Idasailor rudder, so it should be a good sailor. At least thats what all the postings in this forum are saying.

Can´t await next spring!

Hm, i followed the "How to put pictures in your post" step by step, but it doesn´t work. Maybe you can view the pic in the image gallery...

Hi Ludwig,

Wunderbar!

I gave it a hand and I went into your message and reversed the image tags.  /img is the end tag in HTML.  Boat looks great.  I always imaged sailing my Compac in the Baltic. :)

I noticed the boat has two shrod lines on each side.  Is this a change that the factory made?  Is it just on the Center Board model?
Or is this an owner modification.

Interesting.  Also, note the back stay.  Looks like a Honda 2hp.  You'll like that when you need it.

Hi,

the previous owner told me the engine is a 2.2 hp, but i don´t know which manufacturer, since he didn´t sell it because he needs it for his other boat. He also said it is enough to push the boat in a "Flaute" (no wind) on a lake but not enough for an against the wind and waves situation in coastal waters. That is the reason why i posted the engine question here in the forum.

The stripes on the hull might be especially for exported boats, as the name "Com-pac 17" on the side. I know the CP 19 was also sold as a "CP 20" here and the name was also written on the hull. Maybe it is typical german to show what you have (as it is with the cars) - the longer the better;-)

Ludwig,

My guess is the reason for the lengthing of the 16 to a 17 is because the originals (like mine) do not have a bowsprit. When it was added in the 16/2 it made the LOA 16"11" or 17 feet.
