One of the fun things about sailing for awhile is figuring out all the little things that can make your day(s) easier and more enjoyable.

Here are a couple of mine...

For keeping a cooler cool I freeze several Poland spring water bottles. These stay cold far longer than the blue "ice packs" and as an added benefit you end up with ice cold water at the end of the day with no wasted space. For bigger coolers I do the same thing with 2 quart soda bottles filled with water. You get block ice size but without all the runoff and ice cold potable water as the bottles slowly melt.

To help keep yourself cool on the scorching days go to your local car parts place and get an "Absorber" synthetic chamois. Wet it and ring it out just enough so it isn't going to soak you. Put it around your neck and as the water evaporates it helps to keep you cooler. Re-wet it as needed. These have been a huge hit with my kids that don't handle heat + life jackets all that well. It also makes a nice small camp  towel as you can wring it out and keep drying. Frogg Toggs sells basically the exact same things as a "chilly pad" for about twice the price.

What works for you?
