I purchased the new seal material from Perko and picked at the existing seal a little bit to see what it is going to take to get it out.  It doesn't looke like a simple job.  Looks like it will take a lot of picking with a small screwdriver which will result in a mess or taking the whole port light out and removing it with a wire wheel.  Any suggestions on getting this old seal out?

I've done it 6 times on my 23. Yep, you got it right- tedious picking at it with a small screwdriver. I removed the sash and did it on the bench. btw, I have the round perkos in my 1985 23/2. Put on your favorite jazz cd, pour yourself a cold one and in no time, you'll be done.
