I'm considering replacing the Isofurl on my CP27. Anyone have recommendations for a new furling unit?  How difficult is it to do yourself?

Replacing the Isofurl is a good idea. I've used Selden Furlex units in the past and found it to be reasonable in price and fairly bullet-proof. It comes with the forestay and pieces necessary to install the unit, but unless you have a work slip with a portable crane to get to the mast head, I'd let a professional rigger do the job.  A local fellow has a Harken on his CP27 and no complaints. Bottom line..........any reputable modern furler instead of that example of typical French convoluted engineering!

I agree, they are a sad example of marine enginering, I got one sitting in my back yard. My boat has a Harken II on it and has been reliable as one would ever want. They are a number of decent units out there, CDI are inexpensive and work out well.

I replaced my Isofurl with a cracked drum with a CDI FF4 with ball bearings. Was able to do it with a mate's help but with the mast up and in place. Customer service at CDI can't be matched, stupid questions welcome.
