My practice is to install it when the boat is on the trailer and remove it when the boat is back on the trailer. Sometimes I do it in the channel just to save a bit of ramp time, but it has to be installed for the Bimini to be up and the sail down. I usually want shade from start to finish, so do it on land.

Steve, Joseph's advice on getting the sail parts through the hinge area is what I would have said, had I returned in time.
