do either of the ports open ~ All 4 inch rounds open. And need a hook to hold them open. Hook screws into the overhead. I'm not sure what is meant by do all portS open?

it there a brass or teak ring for either one ~ There is a teak ring that can be purchased to go around the bronze [may be it's brass] port that sticks out past the doghouse bulkhead. If your running an CP-16 or CP-19 XL with molded headliner inside the cabin, less of the ring of the port will be sticking outside of the bulkhead, maybe not enough to hang a ring around it, from under the wood eyebrow. This ring attaches to the fiberglass deck house on the outside. It's just decoration.

Skip--Ya gotta read people's questions before responding. I notice you tend to answer CP16 questions as though they were identical to the CP19.  They are not at all the same boat.  He asked about CP16 and 19 ports.  Your answer is not true for 16s.

Mrtoad:  Ports on 16s do not open. In fact they are just alum framed windows, not really ports at all.  Putting in a forward port?

salty & skip - - thanks guys

salty, yes - i am putting in a forward port - in the forward dog house - in my 23/3 - it does not matter if it opens or is a permanently closed – I love the look of this in cat-boats – but – had rather have a round port over the "eye" shape of many on the cats – I think a port like the ones I have on the boat now would be a bit of overkill

What do you think – I am almost certain I will do this, especially after talking with Richard Hutchins and also Keith at the Sailboat Company (NC)
Inside the boat I think the opening port looks nice – even if one never opens it

Seriously – need advice here from two "experts" – opening or permanently closed?? –
Brass or teak ring outside??     No ring outside??  Help me out here!!

Thanks so much for your help

Mr. Toad:
If it were me, I'd put in a bronze round opening port light. I think it would look great and I've toyed with the same idea for my 23/2. You would certainly get a lot of air from that portlight. Maybe you can find a Perko from an older 23.

bob - thanks for the suggestion - do you think the older 23 perko would or would not overpower the doghouse -
again thanks

Opps, Sorry mrtoad. I 'done you wrong'.
As a product of 1950's and 1960's public education, remideal reading was never a strong suit, nor was staying in one school very long.

I miss read the question. I thought it asked, "What size are the ports on CP-16's and CP-19's."
And due to my lack of knowledge about the CP-16's I assumed all ports were like those on my CP-19.
Dummy me. Slow down skippy. Stop making an ass out of yourself.

There sufficiency flogged? lol. skip.

" The gaskets on the windows do eventually wear out. " Every season a fresh wipe of Vaseline over the rubber helps these gaskets stay supple and soft. Old VW trick for the 21 window bus.

On the older 19s the ports swing open to the side, like a door, not up like the newer 19s. Don't know when they changed it though. They do not need a hook on the roof to keep them open. They just swing over to the side. Enough tension in the hinge to keep'em in place.

Yea non of the 16s open (that I am awa of).

What are you adding the opening for, looks, light, or ventilation?
If you don't need ventilation I would go with a closed one. Less likely to leak.
The gaskets on the windows do evenually wear out.

Mr. Toad:
I think it would look fine, but it's really a matter of personal taste. The front is a compound curve so that might be a problem making a water tight seal. On 4/28, I'm attending the nautical flea market in Annapolis, MD. If I see anything, I could photo and text you. PM me your cell #.

Hey Guys,

Since I have a port off my  '77 CP-16, here are the dimensions in case anyone needs the info.

OD: 5 1/4"
ID: 3 1/2"
Material: 1/16"? Stamped Gold Anodized Aluminium.
Mounting: 4 s/s screws, no interior bezel.

Very light, but not very cool... Would love to upgrade to opening stainless..

Mr. Toad, I hope I answered  part of your original question.
Skip, you're forgiven...
