Missing batten & jib hank question

My (new to me "Coconut T." cp19) finally made it the water and into its new home slip. ... Cant miss it, its like the smallest boat in the marina (I'm ok ... Its not the size that matters!) Picture below is from this morning, i and a friend did get the mast stepped later on this afternoon.

My thoughts now turn to the sails - 2 questions for now...

1) I am missing one of the 3 battens for the mainsail - are they all the same size?  Simple enough to make a replacement here at home? ,something i need to order?

2) Some of the gib and genny hanks are fairly  "frozen", ok to just keep working some WD40 into them or does someone reccomend a different product.

Thanks, -Ray

1~Different lengths. I broke one in a storm. Went to West Marine bought a replacement for an outrageous amount of money; $17 I think. and then had to cut it down to size. Which off the top-o-my head I can't recall the length. Don't forget it presses into the pocket an elastic and rebounds tightly back in the leach of the sail.

2~The clips over the standing rigging, hanks, I assume can be WD-40'ed into submission and start to open and close with copious amounts of working the mechanism back and forth. Since the mast is not up yet, might as well unscrew the top-o-mast pulley assembly and lube those pulleys up as well. I use generous amounts of Permatex Neversieze.

How come you didn't walk the stick up on the hard? Although it can be done easily on the water as well. I just hate dropping things into the water, vs. climbing back down on the hard and retrieving my $50 Harken pin for the furler.

Nice clean boat. An earlier no bow sprit non XL Com-Pac 19 model with the unusual early factory gold stripe and logo. I like it. skip.

Hanks are coming along fine with the WD40.

Pic below of the battens that i recieved.

Skip, you're right - different lenghts - but not by much (at least what i have).
Mine are 3/16" thick, 1 1/8 wide
One is  18" long, the other is 17 3/4

So what is my missing size?

just put one of the ones you do have into the slot and see if it si too long or too short, then make necessary adjustments. All sails are not created equal.

If you don't want to purchase a phenolic batten one can use an old wooden yard stick cut to size. I see your existing battens are varnished wood. That's fine too.

skip.
