I was wondering if anyone has heard of a removable tiller or a retractable tiller?  Id like to crab off my Com Pac 16 and want to make some room by either removing the tiller or being able to shorten it?

any ideas about this?

I have made a short tiller (about half the length of the original) and it works just fine.  I do, however, have the Ida Sail Rudder which make both short and long tiller nearly effortless.

Remember those E-Tap French sail boats?
These had a vertical 'tiller' that swings port to starboard.
Not much fwd of the back end of the cockpit.

I thought about that one too (retractable). Never really found anything.  Admittedly, the bee-u-tea-ful varnished wood is tough to replace with some soulless piece of aluminum.

+1 Bob...I now have two shorter tillers and the IDA rudder.  Love 'em.  Combined with a simple line/bungie steering, being slave to the tiller is much reduced.
