Gentlemen, have I got a tale for you.

As most of you know I've owned Pooka, 1986 27, for some time. What a wonderful boat, always took care of my wife and I. We traveled with her to far away places and enjoyed every minute of it. So much so that we thought about cruising full time after retirement. So we began looking at larger boats a couple years ago. Got real serious about it last year. This January we traveled to Texas and fell for a 1985 Islander Freeport 38C. The price was right and the location was nice. We jumped in with both feet and bought the boat. At the same time I put Pooka on the market. We really don't need two boats and the money from the sale would help refitting anything needed on the new boat.
We took our first rip on the new boat back in March/April. Things went fine and those Freeports sail like a dream. Fast, stable and lots of room once at anchor.
But then it happened. The realization that we owned a boat that was an 18hour drive away and required more care than I could give hit me square on the head. We bought too early, the boat had to go. In fact the stress of the situation was getting to me. I started having trouble sleeping and concentrating at work. We had to sell NOW.
So we put the boat on the market with the same broker we bought it through. By pure dumb luck a buyer in Port Aransas was looking for just this type of boat. We struck a deal and it was over in a few weeks. In terms of cash we lost our ass but got my sanity back.
In the meantime I was contacted by a gentleman here in Colorado who was looking for a boat just like Pooka. The Texas boat had not sold yet so we struck a deal on Pooka. Within a matter of a couple days the deal closed on the Texas boat and Pooka found a new home.

Crap. So now I don't own a boat anywhere. Well I guess that means it's time to take a break from boat ownership and regroup.
At least Pooka is going to a good person who apreciates the value of a good boat. And she will be on the same lake we sailed on so I can always go by and say HI. I'll be sure to let him know about the forum.

I'm hanging around here for sure and will have to live vicariously through you guys for a bit.

Bill,

Your tell sounds like it came out of one of my chapters in life.  Please do keep hanging around as I have counted on you as a valuable resource since we have ( had :( ) the same Compac for several years now.  I am sure that you will not be landlocked for long, and if you are ever in the South Florida area you are certainly welcome abord Miss B. for a "fix".

Glad you are still around, we have always loved your adventures.

Bill:
Good move. You can't put a price on sanity and peace. Too often we let the $ make our decisions for us. Sounds like you're a wise man. Or wise guy! Haha!
   Maybe you'll regroup to a 23!
Best in your new adventures,
Bob23

The alga is not always greener on the other side of the lake.

First, glad you are going to hang out here.  Your advice, humor and input is invaluable!

Tough situation!  Talk about sellings remorse!  Sorry to hear this.

What about picking up a small CP, say a 19 this year for something to tool around in on Dillion?  Would certainly be cake to maintain compared to what you're used to.
That will give you time to pick the next Pooka (again).  Just a thought...

Thanks for the thoughts. Not to worry, I'm already looking for something to mess about with.

Bill, you will not be without! I'm glad we could make a deal on Pooka!
I hope you and your wife will join me from time to time on Dilion.

Hello everyone! I'm Bob, the guy that purchased Pooka. I'm very excited to own this boat and it is what I've searched for for the last two years.
I feel very lucky to meet Bill and hope to have many adventures aboard Pooka!
