Anybody using INVERTERS ?

We use a laptop for a Telzon UPC reader for inventory. It's a Mobile unit and has a car battery, dumping into an inverter to power up the laptop battery. It'll run about 2 to 3 hours before having to be plugged into the wall to recharge the deep cycle car battery. Kind of a pain but can't pull the rig around with an extension cord.

I suspect that boaters using inverters would have a very short battery life.

hi skip, if all you are using inverter, is for laptop ,  get a adapter charger 12v to laptop...sometimes  called airline adapter   around $50 bucks or so,  belkin maybe,  alot of  ones out there...no need for inverter  battery adapter laptop...less draw on battery.... be sure to get correct  plug to fit  laptop.....if  more ?  call me  509-486-4508   mikkel thesolarshop 12-5 m-t-w pst   peace

            solar panel  maybe  6watt  not very big............. might  go bigger

I have had a 600W inverter for the better part of the 10 years I've owned my CP23.  No problem since I replaced the original too small type 27 wet cell with a 8D (255AH) AGM.  The first battery going had nothing to do with the inverter and everything to do with using the nav lights and anchor light and depth and VHF for days at a time and running the battery down, plus letting it discharge over the winter, plus having it over charge in summer before I got a charge controller on my solar panel.

Battery life is greatly extended if you don't actually ever use the inverter.  If I really need to use a (small) power tool on the water, its there.  If not, I don't use it.
