The spring hinges on the hatch covers in the salon need to be replaced.  What size are they and where do I get them?  I also need to replace the ball and socket connection to the threaded rod on the transmission linkage.  Does anyone know what size I need?

Grab the West Marine catalog. In there are all the hardware pieces that Com-Pac Yachts purchased and installed during the construction of the hulls. For the rigging look~see at the Dwyer Company. For run running rigging look at Garhauer Sailing. For the 'ball and socket', is that a hime joint? Look to Ace Hardware.

Dwyer is:

Hi Woody;
I'm a little unsure of the hinges you are referring to. Are they for the two hatches on the cabin roof or are you referring to the hinges on the four "doors" for storage under the setties? I have had to replace every hinge in the galley, head and salon. They were all made out of mild steel and eventually rusted and just all fell apart. I don't understand why stainless steel or at least brass ones were not used when the boat was built.

Yes I am referring to the hardware for the 4 storage doors near the floor in the cabin.  They are falling apart.  Thanks for the tips.  I will start my hunt.

Hi Woody:
I picked up some brass hinges (forgot where) and it worked out well. I used two small strips of Velcro per door to keep them shut. I have rolls of the stuff I bought on eBay and I can send you a yard or two if you need it (just pay for the postage). You Will most likely have to drill new holes in the fiberglass for the hinges. It's a good idea to drill a small pilot hole into the teak to get the screw to start and pull itself in. I've broken small screws in teak (it's so hard) a few times by not giving it a pilot hole. Not a big job, I just don't understand how anyone would use kitchen cabinet hardware on a boat. Penny wise and a dollar foolish is what I think they call it.
