Today on my local lake (Lake Paw Paw) Southwestern Michigan area, I had 10 mph winds with 15 mph gusts.  I sailed only with my Mainsail, due to the gusty
conditions and soloing this trip. The Legacy was very forgiving for me with the gusts.  I have one complaint with regards to the Mainsheet  clamlock on traveler.
This seems to lock the mainsheet whenever I'm holding the line and want to sheetout.  I need to find another setup that doesn't want to lock the mainsheet
all the time.  When a gust would kickup I would have to take the extra moment to unlock the mainsheet which caught me off guard and healed the boat over further then I like.  haha  To prevent the mainsheet from locking I have to cross my mainsheet hand over the tiller hand which seems awkward for me to control the mainsheet. Any suggestions on this mainsheet issue I'm having?  Thanks.

Hi SWernwinds,

I had the same experience re: the mainsheet cam cleat. I had to hold the sheet with my "aft" hand and the tiller with my "forward" hand. Kind'a awkward. My swag was that the cam cleat needed to be mounted more level (horizontal) on the block. As is it's angled down too much? I don't know if it could be modified or if the block/cam needs to be replaced with a more adjustable one. If you come up with something, let me know. I definitely want to change how it works.

Congrats on the Lake Paw Paw sail. Sounds like a good time was had by all ;)

Yeah, the setup is awkward.  I know of a marina that has sailboat equipment, so I'll be visiting the shop to see what I can replace the wacky mainsheet clam lock with. When I find a better setup I'll definitely notify you.  Take Care.

Hey Kahp ho,  While I was sitting on my boat in the garage I pondered on that GarHauer mainsheet block and camcleat.  It appears I had the camcleat facing towards the back of the boat when I sailed last week.  I turned the block and camcleat 180 degrees around and it seems that there is less opportunity for the camcleat to lock the mainsheet.  I hope to get out once more to try this new position.  What fun getting up front and taking the battery out for storage.
Take care,

Barrett
