Last Sail of 2009

Ok, so I played hooky yesterday afternoon and got in the Last Sail of 2009!  The weather people here in the Atlanta, Ga. area got it right yesterday with a cold 28F in the morning and a chilly 48F in the afternoon. So I snuck out and got in two hours.  I arrived at 2:00 and motored out past the no wake markers in a light wind and set sail.  It was a 2knt stroll with the water gurgling and the blue sky filled with just a few wisps of cirrus cloud, but it was really nice after some of the weather we've had in the past few weeks.  The wind died at about 3:30 and I headed back past a loon and a flock of seagulls.  Today it's rainy and 37F.  Not trying to rub it in, just thought you might like some sailing instead of politics, etc...

   Are you trying to incite a riot amongst us here in the Northeast? Right now it's sleeting, 36.2 degrees F., and the ship is covered up. Seriously, glad you got out for a last sail. That last sail of the season is always memerable. Happy New Year!

Yep, I vote guilty of exciting a riot.  However you posted pictures so these types of transgressions are acceptable. 30F and 4" of snow today here in Ohio.  Lakes are frozen over but not enough to support your weight just yet.  Not that I go out on the ice anyway...

Seriously though...good on ya for taking advantage of these types of opportunities.  And thanks for posting the pics

   hate to say it but ill be playing hockey before ill be sailing. but i cant carp i had a great christmas and everyone i love is happy and healthy. come on spring.

Good for you. We've been frozen over here for quite some time. Although I did get to ski 18" of fresh at Monarch today.

hey nap, I see you have your lines led aft. How's that working for you, did you do it for ease of single handing? Do you have lazy jacks or how do you handle the main when it comes down?  Is your boom sheeted mid on a traveler or end?
I've been thinking about doing the same thing as I single hand often.

Aw you lucky stiff, been so cold here I haven't been able to get my 16 out to try it out yet.  Salty, what part of Ohio do you live in?  I'm originally from Piqua, north of Dayton about 28 miles.  Went up and picked up my In-Laws and brought them south for christmas and then took them home again last weekend.  Just missed all the snow and ice by a couple of hours.  Lucky me.

Last sail of the season was in October for me... That sucks.  We have eighteen inches of snow on frozen lakes here and it will be four months before that gets any better.  Crap.

Lets go sailing or at least take her out for a motoring cruise. Heading for the take-out ramp years ago.

I needed one of these 13,000,000 btu ribon burner air heaters by Maxon Burner Company used in air-make up units with a 60,000 scfm fan.
I can make 60,000 cubic foot of zero deg F air into 199.7 deg F air with this unit. That ought to do it. Haaaaaaaaa heat! and Comfort & Joy.

Thanks guys!  Well I checked on the boat this Sunday.  It was 37F and with a wind-chill of 18F and whitecaps on the lake.  Not one boat out.  I pumped the bilge and headed back to the barn.  I guess the northern winds have blown in, brrr...

Bmiller,  I'll post lines on the Eclipse section just so we Eclipse owners don't feel neglected.

Salty - been thru all that area, got some cousins that live in Mansfield.  I know about the weather, it doesn't look like we are going to miss it this year though.  Been down past freezing here everyday since just before Christmas and it looks like we are going to get hammered here on Thursday.  I finally gave up and put the CP in the barn until spring - didn't even get the chance to put it in the water and try it out. (sniff, sniff!)  Oh well, it'll be extra sweet come spring.
