I wonder how many drink beer while driving car.

I have done both in past but wonder if in today's politically correct country if that is advisable.  Some states will give a citation for drinking alcoholic beverage on a boat just as in a car.

I don't think it's the "political correctness" that's the problem. It's the fear of stepping out of line bs that the government is imposing on us. When you stop teaching people how to think and to be accountable, you need to impose control to keep them under control. When you create a nanny state, such as the one we see developing before our eyes, there is no reward...only punishment is you dare to think for yourselves.
Beer and driving? Well, no because it's easier to get caught. Relistically, there's no different motor functions between drinking a beer while driving and drinking soda or water. And one beer is not going to interfere with your ability. But Big Brother says it's illegal and so it should be because there are too many irresonsible morons around who will not stop at one.
Seat belts are great and save lives. Does the government have the right to tell me to wear one? Well, if I expect them to take care of me, then yes they do. Personally, I'd like them to leave me alone, let me think for myself and be responsible for my actions. I know enough to wear seatbelts, a helmet while on a motorcycle or bicycle and to not drink and drive. Please don't confuse the issue of having a beer on a sailboat that goes 5 knots with driving a car that goes 70 mph.
NJ will give you a citation if you are found operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol and attach fines and points to your drivers license. Just another example of my states policy of over-control. Here, we give you a drivers license before really preparing you to drive and then fine you for the obvious result. In other words, you are let out on the road with a piece of paper in hand but there is really no training.
Sorry about the rant...Bob23 out!

Florida has an open container law.  If they stop you and find an open container of alcohol full or empty they assume you have drank it and are impaired.   Something to keep in mind after having a brew or two and tossing the empties in the back of your truck.  So far no one has challenged the law - so I don't know what happens if you are caught on the way to the recycler with bags of empties!

I never wore a seat belt when we lived in Nebraska or Kansas or the Dakotas unless the roads were icy.   After moving to Florida twenty some years ago and witnessing the carnage on our roads I don't start the truck until I'm strapped in.  100 people are killed each year just crossing the street where we live in Pinellas county!

As far as whether a government should have thier hands in such stuff - Fl does not require helmets to be worn on motorbikes if you have $10k in insurance.  That low amount barely gets you in the door if you have a brain injury so its likely the taxpayers get stuck with the bill.  In this example the state should be involved as much as I don't like the concept.   M
