I've been [test] sailing with a 75 year old guy in my marina with a 1989 27, [ I have a 1984 19]  He's thinking of selling .. seems like a well used but not abused unit.. Any ideas what this is worth?

A 1988 was just sold in TX for 21,500, or at least that is what it was listed for. Check out the listing here.
That was one heck of a deal.
When we sell Pooka 25K will be the bottom line.

CP-27s from the late 1980s have recently (last few years) sold at prices between $12,000 and $28,000. Prices are lower now than they were two years ago and prices stick around below $20,000 in most cases. A boat that show significant signs of wear would probably be lower still, although those that went for $12,000 seemed to suffer from poor maintenance too. On the balance of it, I am not sure that the boat in TX was a great deal at its asking price, but it sure looked nice.

Thanks for the input. I would put this one in the well used - reasonably maintained category. The fresh water cooling system impeller was replaced and now it seems to lose prime requiring making for an excercise to open the bleeder and squeze the hose before water circulates. Lines have been replaced , sails original, interior needs cleaning and oil teak . I'm quite sure it has seen good winterizing, it's kept in water in St Louis all year,[ freeze in]  say $18k ?

I just bought a 1988 for less than 18K this spring.  It was in Florida and I hauled it back to the Kansas City area.  It had been neglected as far as maintenance goes and was otherwise in average condition for its age.

I would recommend a survey and a good evaluation of the bottom, especially if it has been left in the water for long periods without maintenance.

I would be more than happy to discuss the many things I have learned from the work I have done.  You can drop me a line at my email at catalina9405@kc.rr.com and we can exchange some phone numbers and discuss it further if you would like.

Also by the way my family and I love the boat and are very glad we made the purchase.  This is my third boat over a 12 year sailing career.

Like Chad, I would be concerned about the bottom. A good pre-purchase survey is the best. From your description, I'd place the boat well below $18k.

I was at the marina today and the 27 owner suggested we trade my 19 and some $ for his 27... I may be forced to move up to a 27,, darn..

Go for it! Where are you based?

Marina is in Portage du Souix on the Mississippi, up river about 10 miles from St Louis. We can keep boats in water all year, some use deicing , I pull the 19 out..The down side is river sailing. We're in the Alton pool - one mile wide at the widest point with some real nice bluffs to block the wide..
