Seems like he is doing something wrong, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

The "V-150" is an amphibious military vehicle while the "F-150", regrettably, is not...  That being the case, any skipper not well versed on car matters could take one for the other... Next time just make sure that, at least at the moment of launching, your tow is the V-150 and not the F-150...! :)

Two more comments:

-"I told her it was like driving the boat into the garage... but I never imagined..."

- What really hurts is that the cement pilings and floating docks mean that those are tidal waters, which means that the float in which the F150 is in is of the salty kind... :(

Oops! Should have had a Boost!

I wish I knew the story behind that.  Surely he didn't just drive in intentionally, did he?  Heavy fog?  Wow...

My best bet for what happened is that the car was only on on front wheel traction, while trying to turn around those wheels were brought into the water, the slime on the ramp caused the wheels to loose grip and the car was overpowered further into the water by the weight of the boat.

I am assuming that this is Marina del Rey as there is where the Fanta Sea One (in the background) docks.

It just occurred to me that you said they are floating docks...  Maybe he pulled in at low tide and left it there to hold his spot or something?
