Here are some additional details for those considering coming.

Dates:  August 8-9, 2008
Meet Time:  Aug 8, 9:00am
Meet Place: To be announced shortly, probably Allen Branch Boat Ramp
Schedule:   Both days, sailing, swimming, lunch around noon (either on an island or in a cove). Bring your own lunch!  Head for dock around 4:30--5:00. Dinner at local restaurant around 6:30-7:00, then grog and tale telling into the evening.

First, the main Carlyle Lake website for much general info:
http://www.carlylelake.com/

Nearby Lodging:
http://www.carlylelake.com/Lodging/index.htm

Camping is still available, but honestly it looks very iffy if you don't book it soon. Cabins are sold out.

I'm staying at Mariner's Village, Doug is staying at the Super8. Call for reservations.
Both have VERY reasonable rates, allow boat parking and Mariner has suites if you want to stretch out.

A map to help orient you to find the general area (Western IL, close to St. Louis):
http://www.carlylelake.com/Maps/genmap.htm

And more specific maps of the lake itself:
http://www.carlylelake.com/Maps/lakemap2.htm
Click on each map area to zoom into the zone for printing. Map 4 is the boat ramp!

Google Maps is great for printing the local road maps.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Enter "Carlyle lake", zoom in once and print.  You'll want to print both sets of maps.

Hope you can make it with the wife for a cool weekend of breezes and friends!

And don't forget about the T-Shirts at

Well,
We are within the one month away timeline.....Alot of interest in the 2008 Midwestern Com-Pac Rendezvous.     The dates are:  August 8, 9 and 10,  2008
Where:  Carlyle Lake,  Illinois
That is over by East St. Louis

Today gas prices even dropped alittle.   Would like to see Com-pac's from all the Middle states and more if your willing to trailer to Illinois.

We have Gerry Hutchins blessings on this one.  He is from the St. Louis area and they tested the CP-23 on Carlyle Lake.

Souvenir T-Shirts are available at WWW.Zazzle.com   Just type in Com-pac in the search and go from there.  Nice shirts and fast shipping.

Come one, come all.  Even if you do not own a Com-pac , but always wanted to know.
See you there.

I'm still planning on Carlysle Lake in a couple of weeks.  Any more sailors heading there that weekend?  Hope we have good winds and fair weather.
Carlysle can be a challenge, on a windy day.

Have my foiled rudder is almost finished.  Need only to paint it.  The closed cell foam shaped very easily with a palm sander and 80 grit. Looking forward to trying it out probably at Carlysle.

Excellent !!  Glad your planning on coming to the Midwest Com-pac Rendezvous on August 8,9, and 10th

Lets see........ I know of four boats coming for sure and maybe on two others and it would be great for more.

Can't wait to see your foiled rudder.  Did you take pictures of the building process?
If you know of other Com-pac boats in your area , tell them about the Rendezvous.
See ya there.

I would like to have come to Carlyle but that weekend is my daughter's birthday.  I am familiar with the lake and sailed it in April 2006.  Keep me posted on other mid-west adventures.

I'm planning on arriving at Carlysle Lake mid morning on Aug. 9 and will put in at the West Access Marina ramp or at Boulder on the northeast side of the lake.  Since most of you will already be launched, where should I try to hook up with you?  I know many of you have made reservations at nearby hotels.  Are you planning to pull out each evening?  If so, you might want to consider Boulder Marina.  It has a ramp, cafe, supplies and transient slips for overnighters.

John,
I emailed you about meeting up with us on Saturday.  let me know if you  got it.

We have no cast in stone schedule.  Anyone else wanting to meet up with us on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we will be posting contact points within the next couple of days.

What color did you paint your foiled rudder?  Race on.

See you there on the 9th, John.  Have a safe trip.
