I think we should do all we can to help this writer. Good Old Boat is one of the best boating magazines around. I am sure everyone on this list subscribes. I have made an enquiry, and this gentleman is what he says.

David

As I mentioned before, I am a freelance boating journalist writing a
review article on the Com-Pac 19 for Good Old Boat magazine. My
intended audience is prospective buyers of the boat, or individuals
interested in evaluating used trailer sailers for purchase. Let me
review my current research...

I have talked to Gerry Hutchins at Com-Pac Yachts and Bob Johnson at
Island Packet Yachts (the CP19s designer) and I have collected as
many relevant documents from them as possible. As you can imagine,
not much survives since the boat was discontinued a few years ago.

I went for a morning sail in a Com-Pac 19 by a new owner last week,
unfortunately, we only went out for a few ours in very light winds,
so I was rather limited by the conditions. The gentleman is a novice
sailor, so his experience with boats in general, and this one in
particular, was rather limited.

I have read Bob Burgess's book on trailer sailing, and he has kindly
answered some of my questions via email. I took a few photographs,
but it was an overcast, dreary day and esthetically they are
somewhat disappointing. If you have any action shots suitable for
publications I will gladly consider them (you will be credited).

I had done several Google searches and collected some anecdotal
remarks about the boat.

What I would like to do is correspond with you folks and generate a
database of information, concentrating on performance issues,
maintenance concerns, trailering tips and prices on the used
market. Any information you might like to share with me, or any
sources of information you could point me too, would be greatly
appreciated. Historical or production stats would also be welcome. I
will also be looking through some of your archival posts seeking
potential nuggets, and no doubt I will bring up questions as they
occur to me.

When the article is published, (January, 2009) this group's URL will
be included as a resource for prospective buyers, so hopefully I can
generate some new members for you.

A few years ago, I conducted a similar exercise with the San
Francisco Pelican Yahoo group to help flesh out my GOB article on
that boat. I used to own a Pelican, so I could speak quite
authoritatively about it, the ComPac 19 is a boat I am familiar with
only be reputation.

While I'm here, I can't resist shamelessly plugging my review of the
Island Packet 27 which will appear in the Mar/Apr issue of GOB.

Thank you for your support.

I'll refer this to my friend Kevin who owned a 19. I only sailed wiith him once on it, so I have quite limited experience.
