Rain leaks in my CP-16

Hi folks,
So, I don't have any problems with the hull - sound as a silver dollar.  But my CP-16 leaks when it rains.
It's both sides, about 2 feet back from the bow-end of the berth cushion on both sides, and maybe a foot from centerline. Drip, drip... soaks the berth about where your shoulders should be if you were trying to sleep.
I've taken off the handrails and the hatch slid rails and sealed the screw holes with a good quality product the folks at Hamilton Marine recommended, so I'm quite certain the water isn't from there, and there are no cracks or holes or checks in the fiberglas...  so I don't get it!  Do I just have to leave it parked with a bucket under the drip?
Maybe someone else nkows what might help.  I hope so - I hate a wet spot in my berth.
Best - Keith

Keith:

It's probably the deck to hull seal that is leaking.  This is a common thing on older CPs.  It is a relatively easy fix by removing the rubber rub rail, scraping out the old dried out sealant, and resealing with 3M 5200.

Search these pages and you will find many threads, some with pictures, describing the process.

I appreciate the idea, but I don't think that's it. The water is definitely dripping from the overhead, not running in from the sides.  I wondered if it was somehow blowing in under the companionway hatch, but then why would it leak even in a gentle rain without wind?  Hmm...

A friend of mine used to find "rain leaks" by taping off all "known" areas where air could leak OUT, and then using a shop vac with a in-out hose arrangement, fashioned it so it blew into the boat.  He then went around all possible leak places with a spray  bottle with soapy water in it and wherever it started bubbling...

Good luck-

This may be way off, check the fit of the dropboard and hatch in the closed position. If there is a gap at the two outside corners rain may be seaping in and by capillary action flowing forward then dripping on berth.
The previous owner of my 16 had a problem with drips there and he made a new drop board with little ears on the corners. Now when the hatch is slide closed it's lip covers the ears and no more drips.
