OK, So I've accomplished the obligatory twice over in the driveway and changed this and that to my liking.  Thurs. morning Steppin' Up will taste salt for perhaps the first time. Look for us on Peconic bay between the forks of Long Island. I will Sail her under her current name at least once before changing it as is my tradition.  Wish me (us) luck.

Rick: I'll look for you but it's a long way from there to here on the Barnegat Bay in NJ. Have a great time...I may be out down here.

My first sail on a C-16

So, except for a false start at the boat ramp, mast up, forgot spar fly, mast down, install spar fly, mast up, oh no pinched fore deck light cable. Mast down, retrieve cable, mast up. Whooo! cancell that gym membership! 1 hr 10 minutes to rig.  Only took 35 minutes in my driveway! Boat ramp no need to wet the truck  tires! yea! Used tilt mechanism. it works. Motor out into the great foggy calm!  Rig for sail and drift.  Organize cabin, have a snack read my book and wait for the freshening breeze.  Wind change, estimate 5 to 7 knots.  East of South East (ESE).  Joined by Catalina 25 which promptly left me in it's wake.  Another older 30 foot ish Sloop swooped in and gave thumbs up!  Not impressed with the non roller bearing Ronstans. Particularly in light air. Sails in good shape, er have good shape, average speed 3.5 Kts, up to 4 kts.  Not too bad folks. About what I expect in a 16 foot keelboat in 5-7 air.  Doesn't point like a racing boat. Points like a full keel cruiser.  Didn't notice any keel stall. Did notice limited ability to sheet in the jib. Very good sea motion, much like a larger boat (again full keel). Same wind downhill run 2.5 kts. Needs a downhill sail. Asymmetric perhaps.  Easy to solo.  Motor in, tilt trailer no trouble, pack for road 25 minutes. Home have a beer while cleaning up.  Needs Sail tell tales (did it today). Fix foredeck light cable (did it today) and left trailer light (replaced it today).  Tomorrow I take my little boy sailing for the first time in his life!  I am excited!  Good boat Gil, Thanks for letting me buy her.

Engaging story Rick. Best part is taking the boy out sailing the next day.
Planting the seed as it were in a fine boat.
As with any drill the more repetitions the better. skip.
