I have been considering buying a Compac cat boat for some time.  I was recently talking to a Montgomery 17 owner who said that the M17 can sail circles around a suncat.  I don't want to start a Raucous, but I am curious if the Suncat can more or less keep up with an m17 on a casual group sail.  Also, how does the suncat do going to windward in a chop?  Is there excessive pounding or is it a wet ride?  Thanks for the info.

MB About your question. I don't know for sure but I would suspect that M-17's would sail faster 'cause these hulls are lighter, and fitted with centerboards [I think that is right]. A rev. here in town has an orange M-17 and it looks fast. I have never seen the good Rev. out on it although she sits on a can all seaon long.

Good Old Boat
awhile back had a three part story about builders of the 'M' boats. I love the lapstrate look. Like a Folkboat. Way cool.skip.

Again it's a light boat maybe more tender...?
