how far up the mast should the boom be.i have seen pictures where the boom is up past the hinge in the mast.should i raise it as far as the main halyard block.i have it now high enough to clear the gallows.

Clearing the gallows is important, however it may be more important to raise the sail as far up the mast as possible, then using the down haul pull the sail using the boom down till the sail is wrinkle free in the mast's slot.

I just had another thought...maybe the gallows is not all the way down???  !!!

May be an adjustment in height can be made at the gallows? Give her a look see.

After all somebody had to have installed the gallows and maybe it ought to be hack sawed off.
