I just bought a CP-16 and I do not have an owner's manual. Does the CP-16 have a topping lift? Mine does not appear to have one. Also, I do not know what the top of the mast with the pulleys for the haylard is called (masthead?), but mine is frozen and needs to be replaced. Where can I find a replacement part?  Thanks, Joe in Key Largo

Yes, my CP16/3/XL does have a topping lift.  It is a small piece of line that is tied off through the hole in the middle of masthead and then runs down to the end of the boom.  I believe that Com-pac gets their masts from Dwyer (http://www.dwyermast.com.)  My guess is that you can get a new masthead from either Dwyer or directly from Com-pac.

Hey Joe:

Welcome to the forum.  Great area to sail a Com-Pac for sure!!

Yeah, masthead is it's name.  The rollers are called sheaves and very well may be frozen.  If they are riveted in place as mine are, you can simply drill out the rivets.  Any Marine supply store will have replacement sheaves, just make sure you use the same size.  Re-attach with rivets.  Rivet kits can be had at same store or at any hardware store.

Regarding the topping lift:  there should be a small hole in the masthead.  Thread a small nylon line through hole and tie a stopper knot.  Send line to aft end of boom.  I like to use a small snap hook (brass looks nautical ;)  ) and tie a taughtline hitch.  Neat little hitch is adjustable.  Any questions on tying these see  "Animated knots by Grog" in the "Books" section of this site.

Hope this helps.  Again, welcome and good sailing.
