I recently bought a 1983 3/4 rig COMPAC 16 & have several ?s.

1. Where  is a good place to locate battery. If in lazerette?  How do you secure the box to prevent damage to cockpit drain pipes?

2.  Has anyone put halyards internal in mast?

3.  Dwyer suggested to me to drill a hole in the masthead fo the topping lift.  Standard? or other suggestions.

4. Has anyone built their own bow sprit?  If so, do you have any suggestion, measurements, etc?

My battery is in a box right behind the mast support.

My masthead has a hole drilled through it for the topping lift.

My battery box is in the forward anchor locker on my 1994 CP-16/XL/III and came standard with the boat.  My guess is that Hutchin's located it forward for better balance.

My Dwyer masthead has a hole drilled through the center of it for my topping lift.

My CP-16?XL/III came with a bow sprit, but since I have the boat on a mooring I had to replace the chocks with bigger ones to accept the mooring lines.

My battery box is under the cockpit, behind the port a potty under the companionway

also the hole should be in the masthead. It's not very big.
