2-15-25: Gerry Hutchins, founder of Com-Pac, has crossed the bar and headed west.

Sincere condolences to his family, and a huge "Thank You!" to Gerry from all of us, I'm sure.
Requiescat in pace.

My wife and I bought a new 2023 Com-Pac Sun Cat direct from Gerry Hutchins at the factory in Clearwater, FL which is 16 miles south of where we live. We ordered it during the Covid crisis in order to spend more time out on the water. Periodically, we stopped in on our way to the Clearwater Costco to see Gerry and to find out how the build progress was going. During this time, I spent hours on this website learning everything I could about sailing this beautiful sailboat. Although I was a little shy to interact, the knowledge and expertise of the sailors on this website is really inspiring to this Sun Cat newbie. Finally, over a year later, it was delivered in January 2023. Since we live in a community with an HOA that restricts overnight parking, we had to store it out of sight. Thanks to the optional garage package we ordered, we were able to back it in through our 7' high garage door opening to store it in the humidity-controlled garage. We trailered it to Lake Tarpon, a fresh water lake, which is only 5 miles east of us and sailed it a dozen times to gain confidence in a gaff-rigged sailboat. We also launched it a few times 7 miles south of us to sail in the Gulf. We expected to enjoy it for several more years, however, it sat in our garage unused for 1 year without sailing. We are both approaching the golden years and medical conditions continue to affect our sailing plans. Regretfully, we arrived at the disheartening decision that we must sell her. Soon, I plan to list it in the classified section of this website hoping someone who loves these sailboats can enjoy sailing her as much as we did.
