Well, not so fast! Let him finish the repairs. Then he can have all the grog he wants that day. Chances are good, it will be much too warm for drinking Grog. ... :-) ...

Gerry returned this afternoon with his younger son in tow. The rotted out wood was removed and the entire area re-glassed. They also brought along a 1/2 inch thick stainless steel plate onto which the mast foot bracket will be mounted. This plate will be installed on Wednesday and with that, the new mast support should be bomb-proof. Since all my problems started on the day I took delivery this past Friday, an embarrassed broker and seller volunteered to pay half of the repair costs. I shall post another update tomorrow. I have photos and will try to post them soon. Cheers, Ronald

Hi All, I set-up an account at Photobucket and here is the link where you can view several photos.

Best to put the link in your signature so it's there on every one of your posts.

Go to Profile, then forum profile information.   Paste the URL for your photobucket folder in the signature line.

BTW, your post doesn't have a link or picture.   For webpages, just paste the http:// etc.
For images, use the insert image icon and paste the URL where the picture can be found (not the album..the actual picture).

Hope that helps.

Over the winter I made a new gallows out of 2 inch white ash.  I used Cetol Marine Natural Teak for the finish.

Here is a pic of the old damaged gallows after the mast crashed though it and with the patch that got me through last season.

Greetings

I found this type of clevis pin with catch at a local steel shop in Redford Twp Michigan. They were only $1 a piece.
It's not SS but it's very secure and won't work its way out. I hope to find a SS one like this next year.
I use 3 of these (1 on the mast hnge and 2 on the forestay lever) and keep spares if I see corrosion.
Zoom in on the mast hinge to get a close look.
