PC Running Rigging Question

Hello, PC-ers!
I'm looking at a 2009 PC on Tuesday, and if I can strike a deal, I'll bring it home this week.
I'm curious about the cost of replacing the running rigging. Is there a site, or can anyone share a breakdown of the PC's running rigging? In particular, I'm looking for the optimum diameter and length of the mainsheet and halyard. I want to get a ballpark replacement cost before I survey the boat.

It also helps to know what originally came with a PC and if there are any recommended upgrades to the original blocks, jammers, and cleats. Any particular recommendations would be helpful.

Great news Nick, I hope the boat works out.

The cost of replacing the running rigging wouldn't be much. Here's a link to the working drawing used at Dwyer Mast, the supplier of the PC spars. The throat halyard is delivered at 1:1, and you can see the throat halyard would be just over 30'. The peak halyard at 2:1 would be under 45'. These are rough estimates, verify before purchasing anything. The spars and fittings can be seen in the second link.

The cheek blocks provided by Dwyer are for 1/4" line, the 5/16" line Com-Pac uses is too thick and there is some friction. I, and many others, upgraded the blocks to a larger size, in my case to Harken 40mm Carbo blocks. Many also go to a 2:1 purchase for the throat halyard, so the halyards are readily hauled together keeping the gaff parallel to the boom as desired. That would change the throat halyard length. Bottom line, with only 109 sq. ft of sail, wear on the running rigging isn't usually an issue.

What you may find could be something else entirely, of course. These videos show stock PC set ups, neither is very good unfortunately.

I would evaluate the boat on how it's set up presently, and worry about upgrades later once you've had a chance to sail it.

Com-Pac lists the cost for running rigging for the PC as $167.70, item number MC00R0071.

The peak halyard is listed separately at $41.00, MR00R0510, and the throat halyard, MR00R0305, $53.82. Be aware that for years, and maybe still, Com-Pac provided line with a red tracer for the throat halyard, that runs up the starboard side of the mast, and a green tracer on the peak halyard on the port side. That's just wrong!

Hey Bruce,

I think you might be getting a bit carried away here, ha ha! If  I choose to use solid black, pink, and red/white/blue lines on my 14 ft dinghy so what. It's not like I'm switching red and green nav lights or making positive wires pink and green striped! And I hazard a guess that most PCs don't have nav lights or electrical systems. Also I bet many catboats run natural or white color 3-strand or similar for all their lines as probably most very large sailing vessels do. Admittedly I've no idea what racers do for color-coding their many lines.

I have no problem with pink, or any other random color, but, as exNavy, that was one of the first things I noticed. Over the years, several have admitted they felt the same.

I haven't bothered to change them, but if I do replace them I will probably stay with red and green, positioned correctly!

I'm finally a Picnic Cat owner!
Yesterday, July 18, I purchased ABV00295E909.
I hope to post some pics tomorrow.
My family and I are super excited, and we're looking to get out sailing as soon as possible. Picking up PFDs and a handheld UHF radio tomorrow. I also want to become a bit more familiar with the boat sitting on the trailer in my driveway and clean her up a bit before heading out on the bay.
